Buckwheat Price in U.S. Bottomed at $703 per Ton, Losing 14% in August
U.S. Buckwheat Export Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the buckwheat price per ton amounted to $703.2 (FOB, US), waning by -13.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 an increase of 3.2% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $815.7 per ton in July 2022, and then reduced in the following month.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was Japan ($793.0 per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($619.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Buckwheat Exports
In August 2022, shipments abroad of buckwheat decreased by -61.7% to 123 tons, falling for the fifth consecutive month after three months of growth. Over the period under review, exports faced a dramatic setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2022 with an increase of 48% month-to-month.
In value terms, buckwheat exports shrank remarkably to $87K (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a dramatic decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2022 with an increase of 50% m-o-m.
U.S. Buckwheat Exports by Country
Taiwan (Chinese) (60 tons), Japan (60 tons) and Canada (4.1 tons) were the main destinations of buckwheat exports from the United States.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of +18.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.
In value terms, Japan ($47K), Taiwan (Chinese) ($37K) and Canada ($2.5K) were the largest markets for buckwheat exported from the United States worldwide.
