Brazil's 2026 Grain Crop Projected at 332.7 Million Tonnes

Recent data from the Systematic Survey of Agricultural Production, a monthly report from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, indicates the nation's grain output for the current year. The initial projection for the national production of cereals, legumes, and oilseeds in 2026 is 332.7 million tonnes. This follows a final 2025 harvest estimate of 346.1 million tonnes, which was recorded as a historical peak. The estimate for the 2025 harvest in December of that year was also 346.1 million tonnes, while the November 2025 forecast was 345.9 million tonnes.

The survey, which has been conducted since 1972, offers monthly predictions for planted area, harvested area, total production, and average yield for key agricultural products throughout the calendar year. Its geographic coverage includes national totals, major regions, and individual federation units. The institute maintains a formal policy for reviewing published data, allowing for scheduled revisions when new information becomes available, such as corrected reports from respondents or updated datasets.

Official dissemination procedures for the survey results are governed by specific ordinances. A list of authorities receives the data with precedence before public release. This group includes the Minister of Planning and Budget, the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, the President of the Central Bank, the President of Caixa Econômica Federal, and a chief of staff within the office of the President of the Republic. The President of the IBGE is also listed, with information current as of early 2025.
