Slight Increase in Brazil's Wire and Cable Price: Now $18.2 per kg

Brazil Wire And Cable Import Price in July 2023

In July 2023, the wire and cable price stood at $18,243 per ton (CIF, Brazil), increasing by 4.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 16% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $18,461 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was India ($26,650 per ton), while the price for China ($8,906 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Brazil Wire And Cable Import Prices by Type

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplied products. In July 2023, the product with the highest price was wiring sets used in vehicles, aircraft or ships ($29,572 per ton), while the price for winding wire, other than of copper ($4,126 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by insulated electric conductors for a voltage under 1000 v, fitted with connectors (+0.5%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.

Brazil Wire And Cable Imports

In July 2023, imports of insulated wire and cable into Brazil was estimated at 5.5K tons, growing by 4.3% compared with the month before. The total import volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1% from July 2022 to July 2023; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain months. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2023 when imports increased by 28% against the previous month. As a result, imports attained the peak of 6.7K tons. From June 2023 to July 2023, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, wire and cable imports rose rapidly to $100M (IndexBox estimates) in July 2023. In general, imports showed a mild increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2022 with an increase of 20% against the previous month.

Brazil Wire And Cable Imports by Type

Insulated electric conductors for a voltage under 1000 v, fitted with connectors (1.7K tons), wiring sets used in vehicles, aircraft or ships (1.4K tons) and insulated electric conductors for a voltage under 80 v, not fitted with connectors (1K tons) were the main products of wire and cable imports to Brazil, with a combined 74% share of total imports. Insulated electric conductors for a voltage over 1000 v, insulated coaxial cables, winding wire, other than of copper and winding wire of copper lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 26%.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the biggest increases were in insulated electric conductors for a voltage over 1000 v (with a CAGR of +14.7%), while purchases for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, wiring sets used in vehicles, aircraft or ships ($40M), insulated electric conductors for a voltage under 1000 v, fitted with connectors ($35M) and insulated electric conductors for a voltage under 80 v, not fitted with connectors ($14M) appeared to be the most imported types of insulated wire and cable in Brazil, with a combined 88% share of total imports. Insulated electric conductors for a voltage over 1000 v, insulated coaxial cables, winding wire, other than of copper and winding wire of copper lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 12%.

Brazil Wire And Cable Imports by Country

In July 2023, China (2.8K tons) constituted the largest supplier of wire and cable to Brazil, with a 50% share of total imports. Moreover, wire and cable imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Paraguay (930 tons), threefold. Mexico (285 tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.2% share.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled +1.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Paraguay (+2.3% per month) and Mexico (+1.7% per month).

In value terms, the largest wire and cable suppliers to Brazil were China ($24M), Paraguay ($19M) and the United States ($11M), together comprising 55% of total imports. These countries were followed by Mexico, Germany, Italy, India, Chile and Colombia, which together accounted for a further 18%.

Colombia, with a CAGR of +107.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
