Amazon Expands Program Linking Shoppers to External Retailer Websites

Amazon is expanding a service that allows its U.S. customers to find and purchase items not available in its primary online marketplace. The company announced it will now integrate third-party product feeds, which supply data on merchant inventory, pricing, and catalogs. This integration enables Amazon to guide users to a merchant's own website through its search results or its AI shopping assistant, Rufus, and facilitates purchases using automated technology.

The expansion includes support for feeds from specific providers, with plans to add more. A dedicated portal for merchants to supply feeds directly is expected in the future. The underlying program began a testing phase in February 2025, initially showing customers product details on Amazon before offering a click-through to a retailer's site for further information and checkout. This feature was made available to various brands regardless of their participation in other Amazon services.

For participating merchants, inclusion in Amazon's ecosystem may increase visibility and sales. Simultaneously, the arrangement provides Amazon with data on popular products, brands, and pricing, which could inform its business strategy, trend analysis, and partnership decisions. The initiative may reinforce Amazon's position as a primary destination for initiating product searches.

The company says it now supports Buy for Me, which has Amazon use an AI agent to complete purchases, on third-party merchant sites as well. This agent manages the transaction process, requiring customer confirmation of order details before completing the checkout on the merchant's platform. Customers can subsequently monitor these orders alongside their standard Amazon purchases or in a separate dedicated section. The service is currently operational for U.S. users across Amazon's website, mobile application, and shopping assistant.
