Amazon Air Cargo Launches New Miami to Santo Domingo Route

Amazon Air Cargo has launched a new route between Miami and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, marking its second international service for third-party shippers, as reported by FreightWaves. The seven weekly flights, operated by contractor 21 Air using Boeing 767-300 freighters, are booked through Miami-based cargo agent ALK Global Logistics. This expansion into the Caribbean follows the launch of a Miami-Bogota service earlier this year.

According to data from the IndexBox platform, the Dominican Republic's primary air cargo gateway, Las Américas International Airport (SDQ), is handling a growing volume of e-commerce traffic. A newly dedicated terminal at the airport has the capacity to process an additional 4 million packages annually. The Amazon Air network, which manages a fleet of approximately 100 aircraft, provides ALK with a reliable solution for moving general cargo, distinct from Amazon's own parcel delivery ecosystem.

ALK is the fourth logistics partner to be publicly promoted by Amazon Air Cargo, joining others like Air Premia and Kuehne+Nagel. The move coincides with Maersk Air Cargo's own expansion into the South American market, as other logistics giants also grow their freighter networks.
