Acteon Acquires Upstream Engineering to Expand Offshore Engineering Capabilities

Acteon has increased its offshore engineering capacity by acquiring Upstream Engineering, according to a report from Offshore Energy. The UK-based provider of data-driven engineering solutions for offshore energy infrastructure has purchased the Houston firm, which specializes in engineering and project management for oil and gas sectors.

The acquisition involves Acteon's engineering consultancy, 2H, taking over the Texas-based engineering, procurement, and construction specialist. This move is expected to significantly enhance the combined entity's fixed platform engineering offerings. Upstream Engineering has provided fixed platform solutions across the Americas for over twenty years, supporting early production and marginal field developments. Its experience includes platforms designed for water depths up to 150 meters, which more than doubles the existing depth capability of 2H.

Acteon's leadership stated that the integration of Upstream Engineering's platform design and turnkey delivery expertise with 2H's capabilities in risers, foundations, and subsea systems will create a comprehensive suite of engineering services. The combined portfolio is described as spanning from nearshore infrastructure to complex offshore structures. The company positions the acquisition as a response to market conditions where operators are seeking lower capital expenditure development concepts.

The President of Upstream Engineering noted that joining Acteon represents a new phase for the team, allowing the broadening of its platform solutions through Acteon's global reach and subsea expertise. The combined end-to-end capability is intended to integrate minimum facility platforms, subsea architecture, and deepwater systems into a single offering. Acteon has also recently secured a three-year agreement with Petrobras.
