The U.S. takes a •••% share (based on USD) of global exports on the flat glass market, which put it in third place, following China (•••%) and Germany (•••%). In 2015, the U.S. exported ••• million USD, which was •••% under the previous year.

From 2007 to 2015, U.S. flat glass exports showed mixed dynamics. A significant drop over 2008-2009 was followed by a recovery attempt over the next two years, until exports decreased again. From 2013 to 2015, exports fluctuated mildly, resulting into a slight decline by the end of the period.

Despite a weak growth over 2010-2011, exports failed to reach the peak level of 2007. As the overall trend was negative over the last six years, exports could hardly be expected to close that gap in the medium term.

Despite the fact that the reduction of exports limits the growth of domestic industry, the U.S remains one of the world's largest exporters of flat glass.

In 2015, Canada was the main destination of U.S. flat glass exports, with a •••% share of total exports, based on USD. Despite the decline of total exports, the value of exports to Canada grew by +•••% per year. As a result, the share exported to Canada increased from •••% in 2007 to •••% in 2015. The shares of other countries of destination remained relatively stable over the period under review.

From 2007 to 2015, the U.S. was a net exporter of flat glass. However, imports slightly grew from 2007 to 2015, while exports declined over the same period.

From 2008 to 2013, U.S. net exports of flat glass remained relatively constant, running a surplus of around ••• million USD. Over the two years that followed, however, that surplus not only diminished, but also turned into a trade deficit. The trade deficit reached ••• million USD in 2015, driven by rising imports of flat glass.
