Spain Ranks First in Baryte Production and Trade among EU Countries
EU baryte production showed mixed dynamics over the period from 2007 to 2014, falling from 23 million tonnes in 2007 to 7 million tonnes in 2014, with a CAGR of 15.9%. In value terms, EU baryte production reached 981 million EUR in 2014, growing by 1.8% annually.
The countries with the largest production of barytes in absolute volumes were Spain (2.6 million tonnes), Germany (1.8 million tonnes), France (0.6 million tonnes) and Finland (0.4 million tonnes).
Positive dynamics in baryte production among the main producing countries from 2007 to 2014 were recorded in Germany (+0.4% per year), while for the other three EU leaders (Spain, France and Finland) the pace of growth was more modest or negative.
Spain dominated in EU baryte production and trade. In 2014, Spain exported 13% of its total baryte output. Of this amount, 28% was supplied to Italy, where Spanish baryte held a 13% share of total Italy imports.
