Lemon and Lime Price in Malaysia (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average lemon and lime import price amounted to $932 per ton, reducing by -2.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, lemon and lime import price decreased by -24.1% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average import price increased by 49%. The import price peaked at $1,228 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($1,319 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($431 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Lemon and Lime Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2021
The average lemon and lime export price stood at $318 per ton in December 2021, declining by -9.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2021 when the average export price increased by 165% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $947 per ton. From August 2021 to December 2021, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Brunei Darussalam ($1,348 per ton), while the average price for exports to Singapore stood at $287 per ton.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brunei Darussalam (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Lemon and Lime Imports in Malaysia
For the fourth consecutive year, Malaysia recorded growth in supplies from abroad of lemons and limes, which increased by 6.8% to 36K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, lemon and lime imports amounted to $33M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +10.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Lemon and Lime Exports in Malaysia
Lemon and lime exports from Malaysia reduced to 2.9K tons in 2022, shrinking by -9.2% against the previous year. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 3.2K tons, and then reduced in the following year.
