In value terms, soybean oilcake production rose modestly to $125.9B in 2023 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2013 to 2023; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the production volume increased by 15%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $130.2B. From 2022 to 2023, global production growth remained at a lower figure.

The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2023 were China (40M tons), the United States (30M tons) and Brazil (23M tons), with a combined 37% share of global production. Argentina, India, Pakistan, Russia, Japan, Bangladesh, Germany, Nigeria and Ethiopia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.

World Imports of Soybean Oilcake

In 2023, the amount of soybean oilcake imported worldwide fell modestly to 67M tons, waning by -4.1% compared with 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a slight increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 7%. Global imports peaked at 70M tons in 2022, and then contracted modestly in the following year.

In value terms, soybean oilcake imports reduced to $36B in 2023. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the period from 2013 to 2023; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. In 2023, the average soybean oilcake import price amounted to $539 per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 22%. Global import price peaked at $542 per ton in 2022, and then reduced in the following year.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the global exports reached the peak figure at 70M tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2023, the exports failed to regain momentum.
