Cotton Fabric Exports

Exports

In 2023, shipments abroad of woven fabrics of cotton decreased by X% to X square meters for the first time since 2020, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the global exports reached the maximum at X square meters in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2023, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cotton fabric exports fell significantly to $X in 2023. In general, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2023, the growth of the global exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2023, China (X square meters) was the major exporter of woven fabrics of cotton, creating X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Pakistan (X square meters) and India (X square meters), together committing an X% share of total exports. Turkey (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of woven fabrics of cotton. At the same time, India (X%) and Pakistan (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. Turkey experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per square meter), while Pakistan ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (X%), while the other global leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2023, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of woven fabrics of cotton, when their volume decreased by X% to X square meters. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X square meters. From 2014 to 2023, the growth of global imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cotton fabric imports dropped to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of X%. Global imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2023, Bangladesh (X square meters), distantly followed by Vietnam (X square meters) represented the largest importers of woven fabrics of cotton, together achieving X% of total imports. Mali (X square meters), the United States (X square meters), Italy (X square meters), Indonesia (X square meters), South Korea (X square meters), Cambodia (X square meters), China (X square meters), Turkey (X square meters), Sri Lanka (X square meters), Myanmar (X square meters) and Morocco (X square meters) held a minor share of total imports.

Bangladesh experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of woven fabrics of cotton. At the same time, Myanmar (X%), Cambodia (X%), Morocco (X%) and Vietnam (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Myanmar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. South Korea, Italy, Mali and Sri Lanka experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the United States (X%), Indonesia (X%), China (X%) and Turkey (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Myanmar (X p.p.), Vietnam (X p.p.) and Cambodia (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global imports, while Indonesia saw its share reduced by X% from 2012 to 2023, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
