In 2021, Uganda (X units), distantly followed by India (X units), Indonesia (X units), China (X units), South Korea (X units) and Saudi Arabia (X units) represented the main exporters of typewriters and word-processing machines, together making up 80% of total exports. Chile (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Uganda (with a CAGR of +91.8%), while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, India ($X) remains the largest typewriter supplier worldwide, comprising 59% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 5.1% share of global exports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 4.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in India stood at +14.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: China (-42.2% per year) and Indonesia (-19.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average typewriter export price amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -17.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 62%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was India ($X per unit), while Uganda ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+1.9%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 10% against the previous year. Global imports peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Hong Kong SAR represented the main importing country with an import of around X units, which recorded 34% of total imports. The Philippines (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Iran (X units) and Tanzania (X units). All these countries together took approx. 39% share of total imports. Burundi (X units), Sweden (X units), the UK (X units), Taiwan (Chinese) (X units) and the Netherlands (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported typewriters and word-processing machines worldwide, comprising 21% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Philippines ($X), with a 9.6% share of global imports. It was followed by Sweden, with a 9.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Hong Kong SAR totaled -6.3%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Philippines (+32.7% per year) and Sweden (-6.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average typewriter import price amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -1.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while Burundi ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
