Overall, precious and semi-precious stones (excluding industrial diamonds), unworked or simply sawn or roughly shaped exports continue to indicate a drastic setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017, an increase of 35% year-to-year. Belgium (125K tonnes) held a 20% share (based on tonnes) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Mali (14%), Russia (5%), and India (5%). The following exporters - Botswana (25K tonnes), Canada (21K tonnes), South Africa (11K tonnes), the United Arab Emirates (11K tonnes), and Australia (11K tonnes) together made up 12% of total exports.

From 2007 to 2017, the most notable growth rate of exports, among the main exporting countries, was attained by India (+13.4% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Belgium ($11B), the United Arab Emirates ($7.2B), and Botswana ($4.7B) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2017, together accounting for 41% of global exports.

The United Arab Emirates (+16.8% per year) recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the exports, in terms of the main exporting countries, over the last 10 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
