Plywood Market Size

The global plywood market rose slightly to $X in 2020, picking up by X% against the previous year. Overall, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. In China, plywood production remained relatively stable over the period from 2007-2020. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: India (+X% per year) and the U.S. (-X% per year).

Global plywood exports stood at X cubic meters in 2020, flattening at the year before. In general, total exports indicated a noticeable increase from 2007 to 2020: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, exports decreased by -X% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global exports reached the maximum at X cubic meters in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, plywood exports contracted to $X in 2020. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2007 to 2020; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Global exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2020, China (X cubic meters) was the key exporter of plywood, achieving X% of total exports. Indonesia (X cubic meters) took an X% share (based on tonnes) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Russia (X%), Viet Nam (X%) and Brazil (X%). Malaysia (X cubic meters), Chile (X cubic meters), Finland (X cubic meters), Canada (X cubic meters) and Latvia (X cubic meters) took a little share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2020, average annual rates of growth with regard to plywood exports from China stood at +X%. At the same time, Viet Nam (+X%), Chile (+X%), Russia (+X%), Latvia (+X%), Brazil (+X%) and Indonesia (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Viet Nam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2020. Canada experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Malaysia (-X%) and Finland (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of China (+X p.p.), Viet Nam (+X p.p.), Russia (+X p.p.) and Chile (+X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global exports from 2007-2020, the share of Canada (-X p.p.), Indonesia (-X p.p.), Finland (-X p.p.) and Malaysia (-X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest plywood supplier worldwide, comprising X% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Indonesia ($X), with a X% share of global exports. It was followed by Russia, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of value in China totaled +X%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Indonesia (+X% per year) and Russia (+X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2020, the average plywood export price amounted to $X per cubic meter, declining by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per cubic meter in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, export prices failed to regain the momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per cubic meter), while Brazil ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Viet Nam, while the other global leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global imports attained the peak figure in 2020 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, plywood imports fell to $X in 2020. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Global imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest plywood importing markets worldwide were the U.S. ($X), Japan ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined X% share of global imports. South Korea, the UK, Egypt and Saudi Arabia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average plywood import price stood at $X per cubic meter in 2020, with a decrease of -X% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2012 when the average import price increased by X% y-o-y. Global import price peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per cubic meter), while Saudi Arabia ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea, while the other global leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
