In 2022, overseas shipments of nonwoven fabrics decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year rising trend. In general, total exports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by X%. The global exports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, nonwoven fabric exports contracted to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of X%. The global exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) represented the main exporter of nonwoven fabrics, constituting X% of total exports. Germany (X tons) held an X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Italy (X%), Turkey (X%) and the United States (X%). The following exporters - the Czech Republic (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), France (X tons), Spain (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Israel (X tons) and Poland (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Turkey (X%), Poland (X%), Thailand (X%), the Netherlands (X%), Taiwan (Chinese) (X%), Israel (X%) and the Czech Republic (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkey emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Italy, Germany and Spain experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, France (X%) and the United States (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of China and Turkey increased by X and X percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest nonwoven fabric supplying countries worldwide were China ($X), Germany ($X) and the United States ($X), with a combined X% share of global exports. Italy, Turkey, France, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Spain, Poland, Taiwan (Chinese), Israel and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

Among the main exporting countries, Poland, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average nonwoven fabric export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The global export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Global imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, nonwoven fabric imports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by X% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.

In 2022, the United States (X tons), distantly followed by Germany (X tons) and Japan (X tons) represented the largest importers of nonwoven fabrics, together generating X% of total imports.
