In value terms, brassiere production expanded remarkably to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, the total production indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -12.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the production volume increased by 18%. Over the period under review, global production reached the maximum level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

After two years of decline, shipments abroad of brassieres of textile materials, whether or not elasticated increased by 25% to X units in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 76% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the global exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, brassiere exports soared to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

China prevails in exports structure, recording X units, which was near 61% of total exports in 2021. Bangladesh (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Vietnam (X units). All these countries together took approx. 13% share of total exports. Indonesia (X units), Sri Lanka (X units) and Germany (X units) held a relatively small share of total exports.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Vietnam (+23.2%), Bangladesh (+18.5%), Sri Lanka (+6.7%), Indonesia (+4.9%) and Germany (+4.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +23.2% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China, Bangladesh and Vietnam increased by +6.1, +5.2 and +3.8 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest brassiere supplier worldwide, comprising 37% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($X), with an 8.1% share of global exports. It was followed by Bangladesh, with a 7.9% share.

In China, brassiere exports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Vietnam (+21.2% per year) and Bangladesh (+20.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average brassiere export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a mild curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average export price increased by 71% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+1.9%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of brassieres of textile materials, whether or not elasticated were finally on the rise to reach X units after three years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Global imports peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, brassiere imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the United States (X units) was the largest importer of brassieres of textile materials, whether or not elasticated, comprising 28% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Germany (X units), constituting a 5.4% share of total imports. The UK (X units), Indonesia (X units), France (X units), Japan (X units), Italy (X units), Hong Kong SAR (X units), the United Arab Emirates (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Chile (X units), South Korea (X units) and Spain (X units) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to brassiere imports into the United States stood at +2.7%. At the same time, Chile (+15.6%), Indonesia (+8.0%), South Korea (+7.8%), Italy (+3.1%), Germany (+2.6%) and the Netherlands (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Chile emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +15.6% from 2012-2021. France and Spain experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Japan (-1.0%), the United Arab Emirates (-3.2%), the UK (-3.6%) and Hong Kong SAR (-8.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the United States and Indonesia increased by +2.8 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United States ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported brassieres of textile materials, whether or not elasticated worldwide, comprising 26% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with an 8.5% share of global imports. It was followed by France, with a 5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United States amounted to +2.6%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+4.7% per year) and France (-1.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average brassiere import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 5.1% against the previous year.
