Natural Cork Exports

Global exports stood at X tonnes in 2017, picking up by X% against the previous year. In general, natural cork exports continue to indicate a modest growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010, when it surged by X% year-to-year. Global exports peaked of X tonnes in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2017, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

In value terms, natural cork exports amounted to $X in 2017. In general, natural cork exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Global exports peaked of $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2017, it failed to regain its strength.

Natural Cork Exports by Country

In 2017, Portugal (X tonnes) represented the key exporter for articles of natural cork and agglomerated cork, creating X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Spain (X tonnes), creating X% share of total exports. China (X tonnes), France (X tonnes), and Germany (X tonnes) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2007 to 2017, average annual rates of growth with regard to natural cork exports from Portugal stood at +X%. At the same time, France (+X%), and Spain (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, France emerged as the fastest growing exporter in the world, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2017. By contrast, China (-X%), and Germany (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In 2017, the average export price for articles of natural cork and agglomerated cork amounted to $X per tonne, growing by X% against the previous year. In general, natural cork export price continues to indicate a mild reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013, when the average export prices increased by X% from the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices for articles of natural cork and agglomerated cork reached its maximum level of $X per tonne in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2017, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

There were significant differences in the average export prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2017, the country with the highest export price was France ($X per kg), while China ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
