In value terms, artichoke exports contracted modestly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports showed a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, global exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2020, Spain (X tonnes) represented the largest exporter of artichokes, achieving X% of total exports. Egypt (X tonnes) held a X% share (based on tonnes) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by France (X%), Tunisia (X%), Italy (X%), Mexico (X%) and the U.S. (X%).
Spain experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of artichokes. At the same time, Tunisia (+X%) and Mexico (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tunisia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +X% from 2012-2020. By contrast, the U.S. (-X%), France (-X%), Egypt (-X%) and Italy (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Tunisia (+X p.p.) and Mexico (+X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global exports from 2012-2020, the share of France (-X p.p.), Egypt (-X p.p.) and Italy (-X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Tunisia, Egypt, the U.S. and Mexico lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X the main exporting countries, Tunisia saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
The average artichoke export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, leveling off at the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by X% against the previous year. Global export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, export prices failed to regain the momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was France ($X per tonne), while Egypt ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per tonne), while the U.S. ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
