Wheat Gluten Exports

Exports in Western Africa

After two years of growth, overseas shipments of wheat gluten decreased by X% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, wheat gluten exports dropped remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

The shipments of the one major exporters of wheat gluten, namely Senegal, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

Senegal was also the fastest-growing in terms of the wheat gluten exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Senegal decreased by X percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Senegal ($X) also remains the largest wheat gluten supplier in Western Africa.

The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Nigeria dominates imports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2022. Mali (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and Senegal (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

Nigeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the wheat gluten imports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Mali (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Cote d'Ivoire (X%) and Senegal (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Nigeria increased by X percentage points.
