The West African roasted decaffeinated coffee market fell modestly to $X in 2022, dropping by -3.4% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, enjoyed a temperate increase. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, roasted decaffeinated coffee production dropped modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, showed a measured increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 42% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Western Africa
In 2022, approx. X tons of roasted decaffeinated coffee were exported in Western Africa; waning by -74.8% against 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 676% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, roasted decaffeinated coffee exports shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 379% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
The biggest shipments were from Ghana (X kg), Cote d'Ivoire (X kg), Togo (X kg) and Nigeria (X kg), together accounting for 83% of total export. Gambia (X kg) held a 7.1% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Senegal (5.3%). Liberia (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Liberia (with a CAGR of +72.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X), Togo ($X) and Gambia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 74% share of total exports. Senegal, Ghana, Nigeria and Liberia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 21%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Liberia, with a CAGR of +57.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 257% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 288% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Ghana ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (+8.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Western Africa
Roasted decaffeinated coffee imports dropped to X tons in 2022, waning by -9.7% against 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 137%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, roasted decaffeinated coffee imports contracted dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 105%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Senegal represented the major importer of roasted decaffeinated coffee in Western Africa, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was near 35% of total imports in 2022. Mauritania (X tons) held a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (15%), Togo (7%), Cabo Verde (5.4%), Ghana (5.2%) and Mali (4.6%).
Imports into Senegal increased at an average annual rate of +46.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Mauritania (+49.6%) and Togo (+16.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mauritania emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +49.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Cabo Verde (-5.6%), Cote d'Ivoire (-7.4%), Ghana (-9.8%) and Mali (-15.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Senegal (+34 p.p.), Mauritania (+15 p.p.) and Togo (+5.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Cabo Verde (-4.4 p.p.), Ghana (-9.6 p.p.), Cote d'Ivoire (-18.2 p.p.) and Mali (-21.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X), Senegal ($X) and Ghana ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 66% of total imports. Mauritania, Cabo Verde, Togo and Mali lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 19%.
Mauritania, with a CAGR of +46.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -18% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the import price increased by 38%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per ton), while Mali ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+20.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
