Imports in Western Africa
In 2022, approx. X tons of quinoa were imported in Western Africa; rising by X% compared with 2021 figures. In general, imports recorded significant growth. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, quinoa imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports posted a significant increase. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Cabo Verde represented the main importer of quinoa in Western Africa, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was near X% of total imports in 2022. Senegal (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and Ghana (X tons). All these countries together took near X% share of total imports. Burkina Faso (X kg) and Benin (X kg) held a little share of total imports.
From 2015 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to quinoa imports into Cabo Verde stood at X%. At the same time, Benin (X%), Senegal (X%), Cote d'Ivoire (X%) and Burkina Faso (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Benin emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2015-2022. Ghana experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Cabo Verde (X p.p.), Senegal (X p.p.), Cote d'Ivoire (X p.p.) and Benin (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Burkina Faso and Ghana saw its share reduced by X% and X% from 2015 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Cabo Verde ($X), Cote d'Ivoire ($X) and Senegal ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined X% share of total imports. Benin, Ghana and Burkina Faso lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.
Among the main importing countries, Benin, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, reducing by X% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a measured expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then contracted notably in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Benin ($X per ton), while Burkina Faso ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2015 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Benin (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
