Overall, exports recorded resilient growth. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, quilted textile products exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw notable growth. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Nigeria was the main exporting country with an export of about X kg, which recorded 45% of total exports. Cote d'Ivoire (X kg) held a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Togo (19%) and Benin (15%). Senegal (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to quilted textile products exports from Nigeria stood at +29.2%. At the same time, Benin (+84.6%), Cote d'Ivoire (+38.8%) and Togo (+5.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Benin emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +84.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Senegal (-1.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Nigeria (+35 p.p.), Cote d'Ivoire (+17 p.p.) and Benin (+15 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Senegal and Togo saw its share reduced by -2.8% and -6.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) remains the largest quilted textile products supplier in Western Africa, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Togo ($X), with a 24% share of total exports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with a 13% share.

In Nigeria, quilted textile products exports increased at an average annual rate of +21.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Togo (+20.6% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (+27.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -5.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 128% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while Benin ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Western Africa

After two years of decline, overseas purchases of quilted textile products in the piece (excluding embroidery) increased by 44% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 111%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, quilted textile products imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 177%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Senegal (X tons) represented the key importer of quilted textile products in the piece (excluding embroidery), achieving 66% of total imports. Ghana (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 28% share of total imports. Nigeria (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

Senegal was also the fastest-growing in terms of the quilted textile products in the piece (excluding embroidery) imports, with a CAGR of +30.7% from 2012 to 2021. In terms of the main importing countries, Senegal, with a CAGR of +39.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 14% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 53% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton.
