Exports in Western Africa

In 2022, approx. X tons of optical fibers, bundles and cables were exported in Western Africa; rising by X% against the previous year's figure. Overall, exports, however, showed a pronounced descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, optical fiber, bundle and cable exports rose markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) was the main exporter of optical fibers, bundles and cables, creating X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Togo (X tons), Ghana (X tons) and Senegal (X tons), together committing a X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Guinea (X kg) and Liberia (X kg) - each reached a X% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Togo (with a CAGR of X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X) remains the largest optical fiber, bundle and cable supplier in Western Africa, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Guinea ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Togo, with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Cote d'Ivoire stood at X%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Guinea (X% per year) and Togo (X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by X%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Guinea ($X per ton), while Togo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Guinea (X%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Western Africa

In 2022, approx. X tons of optical fibers, bundles and cables were imported in Western Africa; picking up by X% on the year before. In general, imports recorded buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, optical fiber, bundle and cable imports soared to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by X% against 2013 indices. Imports into Nigeria increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Burkina Faso (X%), Benin (X%), Togo (X%), Senegal (X%), Niger (X%), Mali (X%), Ghana (X%), Mauritania (X%) and Guinea (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Burkina Faso emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Cote d'Ivoire (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Togo, Senegal, Benin and Niger increased by X, X, X, X, X and X percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
