Exports in Western Africa
In 2023, shipments abroad of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments decreased by X% to X units, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. Overall, exports showed a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, exports of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments fell rapidly to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Senegal represented the key exporter of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments in Western Africa, with the volume of exports amounting to X units, which was near X% of total exports in 2023. Benin (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Nigeria (X%), Burkina Faso (X%) and Mauritania (X%). Cote d'Ivoire (X units) and Ghana (X units) held a little share of total exports.
Exports from Senegal increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Ghana (X%), Mauritania (X%), Burkina Faso (X%), Benin (X%) and Nigeria (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, Senegal ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Benin ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2023, with a combined X% share of total exports. Mauritania, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana and Burkina Faso lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Ghana, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per unit in 2023, surging by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a prominent expansion. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per unit), while Burkina Faso ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
