In 2022, number of animals slaughtered for meat and poultry production in Western Africa declined slightly to X heads, stabilizing at the year before. Exports in Western Africa

In 2022, shipments abroad of meat and poultry decreased by X% to X tons, falling for the fourth year in a row after two years of growth. In general, exports continue to indicate a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, meat and poultry exports reduced sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, exports saw a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The biggest shipments were from Liberia (X tons), Mali (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Togo (X tons), Benin (X tons), Mauritania (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Guinea (X tons) and Senegal (X tons), together accounting for X% of total export.

Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then contracted slightly in the following year.

In value terms, meat and poultry imports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Imports by Country

Ghana represented the main importer of meat and poultry in Western Africa, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2022.
