Mattress Exports

Exports in Western Africa

In 2022, the amount of mattresses exported in Western Africa soared to X units, jumping by X% compared with the year before. In general, exports saw strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, mattress exports contracted markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed perceptible growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Senegal represented the main exporter of mattresses in Western Africa, with the volume of exports recording X units, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2022. Mali (X units) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Togo (X%). Cote d'Ivoire (X units) and Nigeria (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Senegal was also the fastest-growing in terms of the mattresses exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Cote d'Ivoire (X%), Togo (X%) and Mali (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Nigeria (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of X%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per unit), while Senegal ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, after seven years of growth, there was decline in purchases abroad of mattresses, when their volume decreased by X% to X units. In general, imports, however, posted prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of X%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, mattress imports stood at $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Guinea (X units), distantly followed by Togo (X units), Ghana (X units), Burkina Faso (X units), Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Cabo Verde (X units), Mali (X units) and Sierra Leone (X units) represented the main importers of mattresses, together generating X% of total imports. Mauritania (X units) took a little share of total imports.
