Exports in Western Africa

In 2022, exports of hair sprays in Western Africa declined rapidly to X tons, shrinking by X% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, hair spray exports reduced notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a pronounced increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Cote d'Ivoire represented the major exporter of hair sprays in Western Africa, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2022. Ghana (X kg) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Senegal (X%). Nigeria (X kg) held a little share of total exports.

Cote d'Ivoire was also the fastest-growing in terms of the hair sprays exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Ghana (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Senegal (X%) and Nigeria (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In 2022, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, dropping by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of X%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while Senegal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (X%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of hair sprays decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, hair spray imports shrank notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by X%. Imports by Country

Ghana represented the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which accounted for X% of total imports. Mauritania (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by Benin (X%). Burkina Faso (X tons), Togo (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and Senegal (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
