Grape Exports
Exports in Western Africa
After two years of decline, shipments abroad of grapes increased by X% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, grape exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a abrupt slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
The shipments of the three major exporters of grapes, namely Mauritania, Senegal and Togo, represented more than two-thirds of total export. It was distantly followed by Ghana (X tons), generating an X% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Mauritania (with a CAGR of X%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
In value terms, Mauritania ($X) emerged as the largest grape supplier in Western Africa, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Senegal ($X), with an X% share of total exports. It was followed by Ghana, with a X% share.
In Mauritania, grape exports expanded at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Senegal (X% per year) and Ghana (X% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a measured increase. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mauritania ($X per ton), while Togo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, grape imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Nigeria represented the main importer of grapes in Western Africa, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near X% of total imports in 2022. Senegal (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Ghana (X tons) and Mali (X tons). All these countries together took approx. X% share of total imports. The following importers - Cabo Verde (X tons) and Niger (X tons) - each accounted for a X% share of total imports.
Nigeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the grapes imports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022.
