In 2021, the West African gloves market decreased by -X% to $X for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. In general, consumption, however, posted strong growth. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

Nigeria (X pairs) constituted the country with the largest volume of gloves production, comprising approx. X% of total volume. Moreover, gloves production in Nigeria exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Ghana (X pairs), fourfold. Cote d'Ivoire (X pairs) ranked third in terms of total production with a X% share.
In Nigeria, gloves production increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Ghana (+X% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (-X% per year).

Exports in Western Africa
In 2021, shipments abroad of gloves, mittens and mitts (excluding knitted or crocheted) was finally on the rise to reach X pairs for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X pairs in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, gloves exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a deep contraction. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Ghana was the main exporting country with an export of about X pairs, which amounted to X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X pairs), Cabo Verde (X pairs), Liberia (X pairs), Senegal (X pairs) and Togo (X pairs), together constituting a X% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to gloves exports from Ghana stood at -X%. At the same time, Liberia (+X%), Cote d'Ivoire (+X%) and Cabo Verde (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Liberia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +X% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Togo (-X%) and Senegal (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Cote d'Ivoire (+X p.p.), Liberia (+X p.p.) and Cabo Verde (+X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Ghana and Senegal saw its share reduced by -X% and -X% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest gloves supplying countries in Western Africa were Cabo Verde ($X), Ghana ($X) and Senegal ($X), together accounting for X% of total exports.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Cabo Verde, with a CAGR of +X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the e in Western Africa amounted to $X per pair, with an increase of X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per pair in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Cabo Verde ($X per pair), while Ghana ($X per pair) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cabo Verde (+X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Western Africa
In 2021, the amount of gloves, mittens and mitts (excluding knitted or crocheted) imported in Western Africa dropped dramatically to X pairs, declining by -X% against 2020. Overall, imports continue to indicate a mild curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X pairs. From 2016 to 2021, the growth imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, gloves imports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value decreased at an average annual rate of -X% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -X% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Moreover, Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +X% from 2012-2021. Benin experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Senegal (-X%), Cote d'Ivoire (-X%) and Niger (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Nigeria (+X p.p.) and Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha (+X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Niger, Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire saw its share reduced by -X%, -X% and -X% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
