In value terms, dried grapes production dropped slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a deep setback. Dried Grapes Exports

Exports in Western Africa

In 2022, the amount of dried grapes exported in Western Africa reduced dramatically to X tons, with a decrease of -78.3% on the year before. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 2,188% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, dried grapes exports shrank dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 1,969%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Senegal (X kg) and Cote d'Ivoire (X kg) represented the largest exporters of dried grapes in Western Africa, together resulting at near 73% of total exports. Mali (X kg) held a 21% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Nigeria (5.4%).

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (with a CAGR of +34.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest dried grapes supplying countries in Western Africa were Senegal ($X), Cote d'Ivoire ($X) and Mali ($X), together comprising 96% of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Senegal, with a CAGR of +33.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 108% against the previous year. Overall, the export price posted pronounced growth. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per ton), while Mali ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Senegal (+1.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Western Africa

Dried grapes imports shrank to X tons in 2022, which is down by -13.8% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 179%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, dried grapes imports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 155%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Senegal (X tons) was the main importer of dried grapes, committing 57% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Nigeria (X tons), Mauritania (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and Cabo Verde (X tons), together making up a 36% share of total imports. Ghana (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

Senegal was also the fastest-growing in terms of the dried grapes imports, with a CAGR of +21.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Nigeria (+19.4%), Cabo Verde (+12.3%), Mauritania (+8.3%) and Cote d'Ivoire (+7.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Ghana (-2.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Senegal (+25 p.p.) and Nigeria (+5.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Cote d'Ivoire (-5.8 p.p.), Mauritania (-5.8 p.p.) and Ghana (-16 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Senegal ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported dried grapes in Western Africa, comprising 45% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Nigeria ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Cabo Verde, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Senegal stood at +21.0%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Nigeria (+10.1% per year) and Cabo Verde (+12.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 8.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a noticeable decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 22%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cabo Verde ($X per ton), while Senegal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
