Exports in Western Africa

In 2022, after five years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of coffee (decaffeinated or roasted), when their volume increased by X% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, faced a abrupt setback. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, decaffeinated or roasted coffee exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a abrupt contraction. The level of export peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Burkina Faso (X tons) and Guinea (X tons) represented the key exporters of coffee (decaffeinated or roasted) in 2022, recording near X% and X% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Ghana (X tons), Sierra Leone (X tons), Senegal (X tons) and Togo (X tons), together creating a X% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Burkina Faso (with a CAGR of X%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In general, imports, however, showed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then contracted notably in the following year.

In value terms, decaffeinated or roasted coffee imports fell rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then fell remarkably in the following year.
