Silk Yarn Exports

Exports from Vietnam

In 2023, shipments abroad of silk yarn and yarn spun from silk waste decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2020, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, exports recorded a noticeable slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, silk yarn exports declined to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, exports showed a pronounced slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2023, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

India (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Japan (X tons) were the main destinations of silk yarn exports from Vietnam, with a combined X% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, India ($X), Japan ($X) and Italy ($X) were the largest markets for silk yarn exported from Vietnam worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports. Thailand, Lao People's Democratic Republic, South Korea and China lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

Among the main countries of destination, Thailand, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2023, supplies from abroad of silk yarn and yarn spun from silk waste was finally on the rise to reach X tons after four years of decline. Overall, imports recorded a tangible increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, silk yarn imports totaled $X in 2023. Over the period under review, imports saw a moderate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X%.
