In 2021, after five years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of wood pulp, when their volume decreased by -X% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then plummeted in the following year.
In value terms, wood pulp exports contracted significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2020, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
Exports by Country
China (X tons) was the main destination for wood pulp exports from Vietnam, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, wood pulp exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Cambodia (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Malaysia (X tons), with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to China amounted to +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Cambodia (+X% per year) and Malaysia (+X% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for wood pulp exports from Vietnam, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Cambodia ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Malaysia, with an X% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to China totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Cambodia (+X% per year) and Malaysia (+X% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average wood pulp export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, leveling off at the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of X%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Cambodia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Vietnam
In 2021, after five years of growth, there was decline in overseas purchases of wood pulp, when their volume decreased by -X% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then contracted modestly in the following year.
In value terms, wood pulp imports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, posted a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
The United States (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Canada (X tons) were the main suppliers of wood pulp imports to Vietnam, together comprising X% of total imports. These countries were followed by Brazil, Singapore, Thailand, Chile, France, Russia, Sweden, the Netherlands, Finland and Taiwan (Chinese), which together accounted for a further X 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by France (with a CAGR of +X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
