Tilapias Market Size in Vietnam

For the third year in a row, the Vietnamese tilapias market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a deep downturn. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

For the third year in a row, Vietnam recorded decline in shipments abroad of tilapias, which decreased by -X% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by X%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, tilapias exports fell to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, posted strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

South Korea (X tons), the Dominican Republic (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main destinations of tilapias exports from Vietnam, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Malaysia, Italy, Togo, Thailand, the UK, Saudi Arabia, Colombia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, which together accounted for a further X 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for tilapias exported from Vietnam were the United States ($X), South Korea ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together comprising X% of total exports. The Dominican Republic, Malaysia, Italy, the UK, Togo, Thailand, Colombia, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average tilapias export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a mild contraction. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Dominican Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Vietnam

In 2021, approx. X tons of tilapias were imported into Vietnam; shrinking by -X% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, tilapias imports contracted notably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

The United States (X tons), China (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) were the main suppliers of tilapias imports to Vietnam, together comprising X% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the United States (with a CAGR of +X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of tilapias to Vietnam, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Hong Kong SAR, with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China amounted to +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+X% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+X% per year).

The average tilapias import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by X% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by X%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (+X%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
