As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, sugar crop exports contracted notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a pronounced increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.
Exports by Country
The United States (X tons) was the main destination for sugar crop exports from Vietnam, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, sugar crop exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Singapore (X tons), threefold. South Korea (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an X% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the United States amounted to X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Singapore (X% per year) and South Korea (X% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for sugar crops exports from Vietnam, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Singapore ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by South Korea, with an X% share.

In 2022, the average sugar crop export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2022, purchases abroad of sugar crops decreased by X% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, sugar crop imports contracted markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Spain (X tons) constituted the largest sugar crop supplier to Vietnam, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, sugar crop imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Cambodia (X tons), twofold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Spain stood at X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Cambodia (X% per year) and Algeria (X% per year).
In value terms, Spain ($X), Algeria ($X) and Cambodia ($X) were the largest sugar crop suppliers to Vietnam, with a combined X% share of total imports.
Algeria, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
