Pig Iron Market Size in Vietnam

The Vietnamese pig iron market expanded rapidly to $X in 2020, picking up by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption posted significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008 when the market value increased by X% year-to-year. Pig iron consumption peaked in 2020 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Pig Iron Production in Vietnam

In value terms, pig iron production rose remarkably to $X in 2020 estimated in export prices. In general, production posted a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Pig iron production peaked in 2020 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Pig Iron Exports

Exports from Vietnam

In 2020, approx. X tonnes of pig iron and spiegeleisen were exported from Viet Nam; growing by X% against 2019. In general, exports enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, exports reached the peak of X tonnes. From 2017 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, pig iron exports amounted to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Exports peaked in 2020 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Thailand (X tonnes) was the main destination for pig iron exports from Viet Nam, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, pig iron exports to Thailand exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Malaysia (X tonnes), ninefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Taiwan (Chinese) (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Thailand stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (+X% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-X% per year).

In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the key foreign market for pig iron exports from Viet Nam, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Malaysia ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of value to Thailand amounted to +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (+X% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2020, the average pig iron export price amounted to $X per tonne, with an increase of X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of X% y-o-y. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2020, export prices failed to regain the momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Pakistan ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Pig Iron Imports

Imports into Vietnam

In 2020, supplies from abroad of pig iron and spiegeleisen increased by X% to X tonnes, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports saw temperate growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, pig iron imports contracted markedly to $X in 2020. In general, imports continue to indicate tangible growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2011 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2012 to 2020, the growth imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

South Korea (X tonnes), China (X tonnes) and Brazil (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of pig iron imports to Viet Nam, with a combined X% share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Brazil, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Korea ($X), China ($X) and Brazil ($X) constituted the largest pig iron suppliers to Viet Nam, together accounting for X% of total imports.

Brazil recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2020, the average pig iron import price amounted to $X per tonne, falling by -X% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a mild increase from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, pig iron import price decreased by -X% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 when the average import price increased by X% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per tonne in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2020, import prices failed to regain the momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the highest prices were recorded for prices from South Korea ($X per tonne) and Japan ($X per tonne), while the price for China ($X per tonne) and India ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
