Exports from Vietnam

In 2022, overseas shipments of paper and paperboard, excluding newsprint decreased by X% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after six years of growth. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, paper and paperboard, excluding newsprint exports reached $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of X%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

China (X tons) was the main destination for paper and paperboard, excluding newsprint exports from Vietnam, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, paper and paperboard, excluding newsprint exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Cambodia (X tons), threefold. Thailand (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to China stood at X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Cambodia (X% per year) and Thailand (X% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) remains the key foreign market for paper and paperboard, excluding newsprint exports from Vietnam, comprising X% of total exports. Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average export price for paper and paperboard, excluding newsprint amounted to $X per ton, rising by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the amount of paper and paperboard, excluding newsprint imported into Vietnam fell notably to X tons, declining by X% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.
