The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, kiwi fruit exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 2,918%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Cambodia (X tons) was the main destination for kiwi fruit exports from Vietnam, with a 77% share of total exports. Moreover, kiwi fruit exports to Cambodia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X kg), sixfold. Hong Kong SAR (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Cambodia amounted to +26.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+211.4% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+4.0% per year).
In value terms, Cambodia ($X) remains the key foreign market for kiwi fruit exports from Vietnam, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 24% share of total exports. It was followed by Hong Kong SAR, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Cambodia totaled +36.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+218.1% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+19.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average kiwi fruit export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 1.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, kiwi fruit export price increased by +137.6% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 55% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Singapore ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+14.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Vietnam
In 2021, supplies from abroad of kiwi fruit decreased by -11.6% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after eight years of growth. Overall, imports, however, posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 153%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, kiwi fruit imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 88%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2021, New Zealand (X tons) constituted the largest kiwi fruit supplier to Vietnam, with a 85% share of total imports. Moreover, kiwi fruit imports from New Zealand exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X tons), more than tenfold. China (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from New Zealand amounted to +33.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+31.9% per year) and China (+80.5% per year).
In value terms, New Zealand ($X) constituted the largest supplier of kiwi fruit to Vietnam, comprising 91% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 2.5% share of total imports. It was followed by France, with a 2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from New Zealand totaled +41.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+95.3% per year) and France (+37.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average kiwi fruit import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 73% against the previous year. In general, the import price posted a notable increase. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
