Frozen Whole Turkey Imports

In 2022, approx. X tons of frozen whole turkeys were imported into Vietnam; reducing by -11.2% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, imports faced a sharp contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 337%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, frozen whole turkey imports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a sharp shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 406% against the previous year. In 2022, South Korea (X tons) constituted the largest frozen whole turkey supplier to Vietnam, accounting for a 63% share of total imports. Moreover, frozen whole turkey imports from South Korea exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Hong Kong SAR (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by the United States (X tons), with a 9.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from South Korea stood at -27.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hong Kong SAR (-14.3% per year) and the United States (-14.4% per year).

In value terms, South Korea ($X) constituted the largest supplier of frozen whole turkeys to Vietnam, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with an 8.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Hong Kong SAR, with an 8.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from South Korea amounted to -27.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (-19.1% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (-20.6% per year).

In 2022, the average frozen whole turkey import price amounted to $X per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 72% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while the price for Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+18.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
