In 2021, the Vietnamese wooden door market decreased by -13.8% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Wooden door consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

Wooden Door Exports

Exports from Vietnam

For the fourth consecutive year, Vietnam recorded growth in overseas shipments of doors and their frames and thresholds of wood, which increased by 43% to X units in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 59%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, wooden door exports amounted to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 73% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

The United States (X units) was the main destination for wooden door exports from Vietnam, accounting for a 58% share of total exports. Moreover, wooden door exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the UK (X units), threefold. South Korea (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the United States totaled +38.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (+7.7% per year) and South Korea (+46.7% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for doors and their frames and thresholds of wood exports from Vietnam, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the UK ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by South Korea, with an 8.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to the United States totaled +40.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (+8.8% per year) and South Korea (+48.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average wooden door export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, with a decrease of -25.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the countries with the highest prices were Australia ($X per unit) and the United States ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($X per unit) and Canada ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Australia (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Vietnam

In 2021, purchases abroad of doors and their frames and thresholds of wood decreased by -54.3% to X units, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports showed a abrupt descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 189%. Imports peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wooden door imports contracted markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 283%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest wooden door supplier to Vietnam, accounting for a 66% share of total imports. Moreover, wooden door imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Malaysia (X units), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Indonesia (X units), with a 5.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (-12.6% per year) and Indonesia (+22.1% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of doors and their frames and thresholds of wood to Vietnam, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 4.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +4.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (-9.3% per year) and Indonesia (+26.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average wooden door import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, rising by 10% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.6%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the highest price was recorded for prices from Russia ($X per unit) and Poland ($X per unit), while the price for Indonesia ($X per unit) and Cambodia ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.
