Common Clay Market Size in Vietnam

The Vietnamese common clay market fell rapidly to $X in 2020, waning by -X% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, consumption, however, posted a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, consumption remained at a lower figure.

After two years of growth, shipments abroad of common clay decreased by -X% to X tonnes in 2020. Overall, exports recorded a pronounced downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, exports reached the maximum at X tonnes in 2009; however, from 2010 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, common clay exports dropped significantly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports showed a perceptible contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Thailand (X tonnes), Malaysia (X tonnes) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tonnes) were the main destinations of common clay exports from Viet Nam, with a combined X% share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Taiwan (Chinese), while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X) remains the key foreign market for common clay exports from Viet Nam, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Thailand ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Malaysia totaled -X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Thailand (X% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2020, the average common clay export price amounted to $X per tonne, reducing by -X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a mild contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per tonne in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Cambodia ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2020, purchases abroad of common clay decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, common clay imports reduced to $X in 2020. Overall, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, imports decreased by -X% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Imports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

China (X tonnes), Thailand (X tonnes) and Portugal (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of common clay imports to Viet Nam, with a combined X% share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Portugal (+X% per year), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of common clay to Viet Nam, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Thailand ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by France, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of value from China amounted to +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+X% per year) and France (+X% per year).

The average common clay import price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, rising by X% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of X% year-to-year. The import price peaked at $X per tonne in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was France ($X per tonne), while the price for Portugal ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
