Chalk Market Size in Vietnam

The Vietnamese chalk market fell modestly to $X in 2021, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last nine-year period. Exports from Vietnam

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of chalks, when their volume decreased by -29% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, recorded a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 104%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, chalk exports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 89% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Poland (X tons), Bangladesh (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main destinations of chalk exports from Vietnam, together accounting for 83% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +64.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the key foreign market for chalk exports from Vietnam, comprising 52% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bangladesh ($X), with a 23% share of total exports. It was followed by Sweden, with a 6.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Poland totaled +55.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bangladesh (+37.7% per year) and Sweden (0.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average chalk export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 56% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 189% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mauritius (+7.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Vietnam

In 2021, imports of chalks into Vietnam skyrocketed to X tons, increasing by 103% against 2020 figures. Overall, imports enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 363% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, chalk imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 352%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Australia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of chalk to Vietnam, accounting for a 82% share of total imports. Moreover, chalk imports from Australia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tons), more than tenfold. China (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Australia totaled +29.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+20.5% per year) and China (+74.8% per year).

In value terms, Australia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of chalk to Vietnam, comprising 90% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 3.6% share of total imports. It was followed by Japan, with a 3.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Australia stood at +18.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (-0.2% per year) and Japan (+26.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average chalk import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, faced a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 28% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+12.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
