The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2013 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 9.1%. Small electrical appliance production peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

Small Electrical Appliance Exports

Exports from the U.S.

After three years of growth, overseas shipments of small electrical appliances decreased by -19.4% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 1,679% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, small electrical appliance exports dropped markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a noticeable decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 18%. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Mexico (X tons) was the main destination for small electrical appliance exports from the United States, accounting for a 48% share of total exports. Moreover, small electrical appliance exports to Mexico exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Canada (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Belgium (X tons), with a 3.1% share.

From 2013 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Mexico totaled +33.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Canada (+55.7% per year) and Belgium (+45.1% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for small electrical appliance exported from the United States were Canada ($X), Mexico ($X) and China ($X), together comprising 54% of total exports. Belgium, Venezuela and Peru lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 5%.

Peru, with a CAGR of +1.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average small electrical appliance export price amounted to $X per kg, waning by -17.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price faced a dramatic contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 20% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per kg in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per kg), while the average price for exports to Peru ($X per kg) was amongst the lowest.

From 2013 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (-26.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Small Electrical Appliance Imports

Imports into the U.S.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of small electrical appliances, when their volume decreased by -10.5% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 4,441%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, small electrical appliance imports reached $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2013 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +53.4% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 25%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest small electrical appliance supplier to the United States, accounting for a 80% share of total imports. Moreover, small electrical appliance imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Mexico (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Vietnam (X tons), with a 3.9% share.

From 2013 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +38.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Mexico (+67.1% per year) and Vietnam (+31.5% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of small electrical appliances to the United States, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mexico ($X), with a 7.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 4.4% share.

From 2013 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China amounted to +4.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Mexico (+7.2% per year) and Malaysia (+14.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average small electrical appliance import price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a dramatic slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2013 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+16.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
