Over the period under review, tobacco exports attained their peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2018, exports failed to regain their momentum.

Exports by Country

Saudi Arabia (X tonnes), Egypt (X tonnes) and Oman (X tonnes) were the main destinations of tobacco exports from the United Arab Emirates, together comprising X% of total exports. India, Kuwait, Libya, Iran, Cambodia, France, Lebanon, Georgia and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of exports, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Georgia (+X% per year), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for tobacco exported from the United Arab Emirates were Saudi Arabia ($X), Oman ($X) and Libya ($X), together accounting for X% of total exports. These countries were followed by Egypt, Germany, Lebanon, Iran, India, Georgia, France, Kuwait and Cambodia, which together accounted for a further X terms of the main countries of destination, Georgia (+X% per year) recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to exports, over the last eleven years, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2018, the average tobacco export price amounted to $X per tonne, jumping by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price indicated resilient growth from 2007 to 2018: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, tobacco export price increased by +X% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008 an increase of X% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2018, export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2018, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to India ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

Tobacco imports into the United Arab Emirates amounted to X tonnes in 2018, reducing by -X% against the previous year. In general, tobacco imports, however, continue to indicate conspicuous growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. In that year, tobacco imports attained their peak of X tonnes. From 2012 to 2018, the growth of tobacco imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, tobacco imports totaled $X in 2018. Over the period under review, tobacco imports, however, continue to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Imports by Country

India (X tonnes), Zimbabwe (X tonnes) and Brazil (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of tobacco imports to the United Arab Emirates, with a combined X% share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of imports, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by India, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
