Maize Market Size in the United Arab Emirates

In 2020, the maize market in the United Arab Emirates decreased by -X% to $X, falling for the third consecutive year after eleven years of growth. As a result, exports attained the peak of X tonnes. from 2019 to 2020, the growth exports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, maize exports dropped notably to $X in 2020. Overall, exports showed a dramatic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. As a result, exports reached the peak of $X. from 2014 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Afghanistan (X tonnes) was the main destination for maize exports from the United Arab Emirates, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, maize exports to Afghanistan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Maldives (X tonnes), twofold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Djibouti (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Afghanistan totaled -X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Maldives (-X% per year) and Djibouti (-X% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for maize exported from the United Arab Emirates were Afghanistan ($X), Maldives ($X) and Djibouti ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. Oman, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia and Kuwait lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

The average maize export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, approximately reflecting the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, export price reached the peak level of $X per tonne. from 2016 to 2020, the growth in terms of the average export prices failed to regain the momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Maldives ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Kuwait ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Maldives, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2020, supplies from abroad of maize (green) decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the third year in a row after eleven years of growth. In general, imports, however, showed buoyant growth. Moreover, maize imports from Iran exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Oman (X tonnes), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by India (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Iran totaled +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Oman (+X% per year) and India (+X% per year).

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by X% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per tonne in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, import prices failed to regain the momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per tonne), while the price for Oman ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
