Honey Market Size in the United Arab Emirates

In 2020, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in the honey market in the United Arab Emirates, when its value increased by X% to $X. Overall, consumption enjoyed prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X% year-to-year. As a result, exports attained the peak of X tonnes. from 2018 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, honey exports surged to $X in 2020. In general, exports showed a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2012 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, exports reached the peak figure in 2020 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Uganda (X tonnes) was the main destination for honey exports from the United Arab Emirates, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, honey exports to Uganda exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the U.S. (X tonnes), twofold. Kenya (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to Uganda amounted to +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the U.S. (+X% per year) and Kenya (+X% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for honey exported from the United Arab Emirates were the U.S. ($X), Uganda ($X) and India ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports.

In 2020, the average honey export price amounted to $X per tonne, which is down by -X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a mild expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average export prices hit record highs at $X per tonne in 2019, and then fell in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Mauritius ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Kenya ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mauritius, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2020, overseas purchases of honey were finally on the rise to reach X tonnes after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports saw a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, honey imports soared to $X in 2020. In general, imports posted a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2011 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2020, India (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of honey to the United Arab Emirates, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, honey imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tonnes), threefold. Hungary (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from India totaled +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+X% per year) and Hungary (+X% per year).

In value terms, India ($X), Hungary ($X) and Germany ($X) constituted the largest honey suppliers to the United Arab Emirates, together accounting for X% of total imports.
