Vegetable Market Size in Ukraine
The Ukrainian vegetable market fell modestly to $X in 2021, which is down by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Vegetable consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.
Vegetable Production in Ukraine
In value terms, vegetable production reduced modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the production volume increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.
The average yield of vegetables in Ukraine dropped slightly to X tonnes per ha in 2021, approximately mirroring the previous year's figure. In general, the yield saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the yield increased by X%. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of X tonnes per ha. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the average vegetable yield remained at a lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2021, the harvested area of vegetables in Ukraine declined modestly to X ha, standing approx. at 2020 figures. Overall, the harvested area recorded a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to vegetable production attained the maximum at X ha in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the harvested area failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Ukraine
After two years of decline, shipments abroad of vegetables increased by X% to X tonnes in 2021. Overall, exports, however, faced a abrupt setback. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tonnes in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, vegetable exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a deep setback. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Belarus (X tonnes), Romania (X tonnes) and Moldova (X tonnes) were the main destinations of vegetable exports from Ukraine, with a combined X% share of total exports. Poland, Azerbaijan, Estonia and Iraq lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Iraq (with a CAGR of +X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for vegetable exported from Ukraine were Belarus ($X), Poland ($X) and Romania ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. Estonia, Moldova, Azerbaijan and Iraq lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X terms of the main countries of destination, Iraq, with a CAGR of +X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average vegetable export price amounted to $X per tonne, growing by X% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of X%. The export price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Azerbaijan ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Estonia (+X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Vegetable Imports
Imports into Ukraine
In 2021, purchases abroad of vegetables decreased by -X% to X tonnes for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by X%. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2020, and then declined dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, vegetable imports reduced modestly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed noticeable growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020, and then declined in the following year.
Imports by Country
Turkey (X tonnes), Poland (X tonnes) and the Netherlands (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of vegetable imports to Ukraine.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Latvia (with a CAGR of +X%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constituted the largest supplier of vegetable to Ukraine, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Poland ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Turkey amounted to +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+X% per year) and the Netherlands (+X% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average vegetable import price stood at $X per tonne in 2021, rising by X% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a pronounced contraction. The import price peaked at $X per tonne in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per tonne), while the price for Denmark ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
