The average yield of vegetables in Ukraine reduced modestly to X tons per ha in 2022, declining by X% on 2021 figures. Overall, the yield, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the yield increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of X tons per ha. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the average vegetable yield remained at a somewhat lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2022, approx. X ha of vegetables were harvested in Ukraine; almost unchanged from 2021 figures. Over the period under review, the harvested area, however, showed a mild setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the harvested area increased by X%. The vegetable harvested area peaked at X ha in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the harvested area stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Vegetable Exports
Exports from Ukraine
Vegetable exports from Ukraine contracted notably to X tons in 2022, shrinking by X% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, vegetable exports fell significantly to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a abrupt slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Moldova (X tons) was the main destination for vegetable exports from Ukraine, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, vegetable exports to Moldova exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Belarus (X tons), threefold. Azerbaijan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Moldova stood at X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (X% per year) and Azerbaijan (X% per year).
In value terms, Poland ($X), Moldova ($X) and Belarus ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for vegetable exported from Ukraine worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports. Azerbaijan, Turkey, Russia and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.
Among the main countries of destination, Azerbaijan, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average vegetable export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Moldova ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Vegetable Imports
Imports into Ukraine
In 2022, overseas purchases of vegetables increased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports recorded resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, vegetable imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Poland (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main suppliers of vegetable imports to Ukraine, with a combined X% share of total imports. North Macedonia, Romania, Moldova, Italy, Spain and China lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
