In value terms, unbleached sulphate pulp exports shrank dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 35,035% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then declined markedly in the following year.

Switzerland (X tons), India (X tons) and Sweden (X tons) were the main destinations of unbleached sulphate pulp exports from Ukraine, together comprising 86% of total exports.

From 2014 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for India (with a CAGR of 0.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, Switzerland ($X), India ($X) and Sweden ($X) constituted the largest markets for unbleached sulphate pulp exported from Ukraine worldwide, with a combined 88% share of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, India, with a CAGR of 0.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

The average unbleached sulphate pulp export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, stabilizing at the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average export price increased by 52%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2014 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+4.3%).

Imports into Ukraine

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of unbleached sulphate pulp, when their volume decreased by -43.4% to X tons. Overall, imports faced a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 31%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, unbleached sulphate pulp imports shrank markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a deep downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Sweden (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of unbleached sulphate pulp to Ukraine, accounting for a 53% share of total imports. Moreover, unbleached sulphate pulp imports from Sweden exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Russia (X tons), fourfold. Austria (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Sweden amounted to +3.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (-23.9% per year) and Austria (-5.2% per year).

In value terms, Sweden ($X) constituted the largest supplier of unbleached sulphate pulp to Ukraine, comprising 52% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Austria, with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Sweden totaled +3.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (-22.8% per year) and Austria (-6.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average unbleached sulphate pulp import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 12% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 26%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per ton), while the price for Austria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
