After two years of decline, shipments abroad of rusks, toasted bread and similar toasted products increased by 13% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a pronounced setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 21%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, rusks and toasted bread exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 22%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Moldova (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and Latvia (X tons) were the main destinations of rusks and toasted bread exports from Ukraine, together accounting for 71% of total exports. Lithuania, Poland, Germany, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 24%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Poland (with a CAGR of +51.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Moldova ($X), Belarus ($X) and Latvia ($X) were the largest markets for rusks and toasted bread exported from Ukraine worldwide, with a combined 73% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Lithuania, Germany, Georgia, Poland, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Russia, which together accounted for a further 21%.
Poland, with a CAGR of +37.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average rusks and toasted bread export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 5.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 11% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Egypt (+235.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Imports of Rusks, Toasted Bread and Similar Toasted Products
Imports into Ukraine
In 2021, approx. X tons of rusks, toasted bread and similar toasted products were imported into Ukraine; picking up by 28% on the year before. In general, imports recorded a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 141% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, rusks and toasted bread imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 129% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Bulgaria (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of rusks and toasted bread imports to Ukraine, with a combined 74% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Finland, the Netherlands, Malaysia, Portugal, Belgium and the UK, which together accounted for a further 21%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Finland (with a CAGR of +77.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Bulgaria ($X) constituted the largest supplier of rusks and toasted bread to Ukraine, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Finland, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Bulgaria amounted to +26.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+51.9% per year) and Finland (+61.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average rusks and toasted bread import price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -8.7% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+18.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
