In 2022, the amount of recovered paper exported from Ukraine reduced sharply to X tons, waning by X% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate noticeable growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, recovered paper exports contracted dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by X%. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

Germany (X tons) was the main destination for recovered paper exports from Ukraine, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, recovered paper exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hungary (X tons), threefold. Bulgaria (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany stood at X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (X% per year) and Bulgaria (X% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for recovered paper exports from Ukraine, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hungary ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Bulgaria, with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Germany stood at X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (X% per year) and Bulgaria (X% per year).

In 2022, the average recovered paper export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of X%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of recovered paper decreased by X% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, recovered paper imports fell remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Slovakia (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) were the main suppliers of recovered paper imports to Ukraine, together accounting for X% of total imports. Moldova, Romania, the Czech Republic, Russia and Latvia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
